About Us

What is ELKI?

The Eltern-Kind-Zentrum (ELKI) is a lively meeting place for families with children from birth until kindergarten age – and often well beyond. Parents, grandparents, childminders and caregivers are all warmly welcome. As a non-profit organization, we open our doors at least five days a week and welcome everyone – whether you are a member or simply curious to learn more.

Creating together, not just joining in

ELKI thrives on community, involvement and heart. Anyone who wishes can play an active role – by helping in the open playroom, supporting language groups, joining mini-kindergarten teams or offering courses. There are also many ways to help behind the scenes: organizing, decorating, shopping, repairing or assisting with events.

Those who get involved experience ELKI not just as a place – but as a community that feels like home.

A place to arrive, connect & grow

Whether as a participant or as a volunteer, you will meet people who are in a similar phase of life. You can exchange experiences, build friendships, find support or even discover a new area of interest.

ELKI offers space for initiative and creativity – through play, crafts, singing or open conversation in different languages. Many of our programs today grew out of ideas suggested by parents themselves.

International. Diverse. Connected.

One of our greatest strengths is our international spirit: families currently meet in seven different language groups to sing, play and share in their mother tongue. Other families connect spontaneously in the open playroom – enriching ELKI with their languages and cultures.

Supporting families in Schwabing since 2002

ELKI was founded in November 2002 and is supported by the City of Munich, the Government of Upper Bavaria and the District Committee 4 Schwabing-West.

Come join us and become part of our community

Whether you simply want to stop by or are excited to get involved – we look forward to welcoming you. ELKI is a place shaped by the people who come here. And who knows? You may find not just a meeting place, but a little piece of home.

The Team

We are an international and diverse team with different backgrounds and talents – united by our passion for supporting families and accompanying children as they grow.
