Eltern-Kind-Zentrum Schwabing

We are ELKI

The ELKI – Eltern-Kind-Zentrum Schwabing e.V. – is an open, vibrant meeting place for families with young children. Since 2002, we have been creating a space where parents, grandparents, and children can come together, share experiences, learn from one another, and grow as a community.

At ELKI, everything centers around togetherness, diversity, and connection. We welcome families from all cultures – whether they are already members or simply stopping by spontaneously. Here, children can play, sing, laugh, craft, and explore in a warm and friendly atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

ELKI thrives on engagement, creativity, and heart. Many of our offerings are created through the initiative of our members and volunteers – from open playrooms and language groups to creative courses and family events. With every family that joins us, ELKI continues to grow and evolve.

ELKI is more than a place. It is a community, a feeling of home – and often the beginning of friendships that last.
Come by and become a part of it – we look forward to meeting you!

Open Language Groups

We offer groups in several languages. This allows families with a shared linguistic or cultural background to connect easily, exchange experiences, and make new friendships. At the same time, all families are welcome to explore different languages and cultures together.

Children hear a variety of languages, learn from one another, and develop their communication skills naturally and pressure-free — simply by playing.

Our language and play groups are joyful spaces full of music, movement, and interaction. Through songs, fingerplays, and games, we gently support language development, rhythm, and social skills in a warm, open atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.

Participation fee:
Members: €2.50
Non-members: €5.00

Our program is enriched by a diverse selection of courses, offered in cooperation with experienced professionals through our partner network. Together we create an inspiring mix of music, movement, creativity, language, and early learning — thoughtfully tailored to the needs of families with young children.

Whether singing, dancing, painting, or playful learning — our courses invite children and adults alike to explore new things, try out creative ideas, and share joyful moments.

Supervised playgroups

Our supervised playgroup offers loving, part-time care for children from 18 months up to kindergarten age. Twice a week, the children play, sing, craft, and explore together in a small, familiar group. Supported by dedicated parents and caregivers, they experience a gentle introduction to group life — with plenty of room for free play, first friendships, and bilingual (German/English) learning.

The playgroup also provides valuable relief for parents and an opportunity to participate actively in the ELKI community.

At ELKI, we want to offer more than play spaces — we aim to support families in their everyday lives as well. Our social pedagogue, Seila Gonzalez, offers guidance with warmth, expertise, and deep understanding. All counseling services are available with or without an appointment, depending on your needs.

Individual Pedagogical Counseling

If you have questions about your child’s development, parenting challenges, or family dynamics, Seila provides one-on-one sessions where you can explore concerns, find solutions, and gain new perspectives.

Support with the Kita Application – “Kitafinder” Workshop

On the first Wednesday of each month, Seila helps parents navigate the Munich childcare application system.
Topics include:

  • How does the Kitafinder work?

  • Which documents do you need?

  • How can you improve your chances of getting a place?

This workshop is helpful for both new families and those already in the process. Registration required.

Help with Applications and Forms

Whether you need assistance with benefits such as Bildung und Teilhabe, financial support, parental allowance, or other applications — the paperwork can be overwhelming.
Seila helps you understand which benefits apply, how to complete the forms correctly, and what you need to submit.
This service is available with or without an appointment.

Room
Rental

Are you looking for a beautiful, child-friendly space for a birthday party or a small family celebration?
At ELKI, you’ll find exactly the right place: our cozy rooms, where children can play safely and families can relax and celebrate together.

FarinelliKIDS is a loving parent initiative under the umbrella of ELKI Schwabing e.V. In our small, family-like group of around 25 children, we offer reliable and warm midday care directly in the classrooms of the Farinellistraße elementary school.

Our three educators look after the children every day from the end of school until 4:00 pm (Fridays until 3:00 pm) — a staff ratio that is well above average. A kitchen assistant supports the team during lunchtime, and meals are provided by Kindermenü-König, a caterer specializing in high-quality, child-friendly dishes.

A key focus of our program is homework support in small groups. Organized by grade level and held in separate rooms within the school, our caregivers guide the children with empathy, structure, and individual attention. Before and after homework time, we make the most of every opportunity to play outdoors and enjoy fresh air.
